The 17th season of the Indian Premier League has witnessed a surge in big totals, with teams scoring 200 plus in almost every game. A total of 287/3, the highest ever, was achieved in IPL 2024.
Punjab Kings chased down 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, the highest second-innings total ever in T20 cricket. There is growing concern about the bowlers and the factors leading to a never-seen-before totals.
However, Rajasthan Royal pacer Avesh Khan said there is no point in giving excuses for the high-scoring matches.
Speaking after RR’s win against LSG in Lucknow, where the Sanju Samson-led team chased down 197 runs, Avesh said he is only bothered about his performances.
“You can’t complaint about wickets, Impact Player rule and small boundaries. There is no point in hunting for excuses. I don’t mind getting hit for a boundary on the good ball. As a bowler, If you back yourself, you can bowl well in all the 14 matches. There will be times when you will be hit for runs but you should accept it and move on as that is when you can become a performer in the IPL,” Avesh Khan said in the post-match press conference.
Speaking about the bowling group of Rajasthan, Avesh labelled it as one of the best in the cash-rich league.”Trent Boult takes wickets in the powerplay overs. Sandeep Sharma has been fabulous for us. We will have to improve in the middle overs,’ he added.
Avesh also lauded Dhruv Jurel, who scored a fifty.”Dhruv Jurel batted well. He was under the pump in the previous games but came up with a match-winning knock against Lucknow,” Avesh concluded.
RR maintained their number one position in the IPL points table with eight wins from 9 matches.
