The issue of selection or ignoring any player always remains a shadow in Team India. These days, this discussion is being done about star fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who was not selected in the ODI series for Australia tour.
Shami, who played an important role in Team India's victory in the Champions Trophy, not being selected for this tour is under question. Although chief selector Ajit Agarkar had cited Shami's fitness as the reason for this, Shami, who is currently playing in Ranji Trophy, rejected such claims. Now once again Agarkar has reiterated his point, due to which questions are being raised whether Shami is lying about his fitness?Mohammed Shami, who took 9 wickets for Team India in the Champions Trophy 2025, recently created a sensation with his statement on the matter of selection and fitness.
Shami, who took 3 wickets on the first day of the Ranji Trophy match for Bengal, said that the selection is not in his hands. On the claims of fitness, the Indian pacer said that if the situation had been like this, he would not have come to play Ranji match for Bengal. He had also said that if he can play four-day matches then he will be fit for 50 over matches also.Shami had also said that it is not his job to give updates on fitness, but it is the job of the Center of Excellence and as a player, he can go there and give tests and continue his practice.
This statement of Shami also created a lot of stir because he did not go on England tour due to fitness but recently he had also played in Duleep Trophy and now he is playing Ranji Trophy. But Chief Selector Agarkar does not agree with this. When Shami's statement was mentioned in a news channel's event, Agarkar made it clear that he was not aware of it but if there is any issue then it would be a topic of discussion between him and the bowler.
But Agarkar again said, "He has been a great player for India and if he has said something, then we both will discuss it. Even before the England tour, we had said that if he was fit, he would have been there. Our domestic season is just starting, so we will see what happens. One match has happened now and in the next 2-3 matches we will see how his fitness is."Agarkar further said that he had discussed with Shami several times in the last few months and if Shami had been here, he could have answered this question. The former Indian pacer also said, "If he is bowling well, then why wouldn't you choose him in the team.
But in the last 6-8 months or a year, we saw that he was not fit, we wanted to take him to Australia last time too, but he was not completely fit. If he remains fit, then who knows, the situation can change in the next few months." Now Agarkar is saying that he has talked to Shami many times in the last few months, so the question arises that both of them from Who is telling the truth?
