Indian cricket team's star fast bowler Mohammed Shami and his fitness both remain in the headlines. He has not played for Team India for the last 7 months and BCCI is saying that this is the reason for his poor fitness.
But Shami is continuously calling himself fit. Meanwhile, he played for the Bengal team in the first round of Ranji Trophy 2025-26 and caught everyone's attention with his deadly bowling.Mohammed Shami played against the Uttarakhand team in the first round of Ranji Trophy 2025-26. He bowled amazingly in both the innings of this match. Shami bowled 14.5 overs in the first innings of the match and took 3 wickets for 37 runs. The special thing was that he took these 3 wickets in just 4 balls.
Actually, he achieved his first success on the second ball of his 15th over and also achieved success on the third-fifth ball. After this, Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc in the second innings also. In this innings, he bowled 24.4 overs and made 4 batsmen his victims while conceding 38 runs. That means Mohammed Shami managed to take a total of 7 wickets in this match. Along with this, he also tested his fitness by bowling about 40 overs. Which is also the most discussed. In this match, he was also the bowler who took the most wickets for his team. In such a situation, if Shami continues his fitness and form in the coming matches, he can be seen making a comeback in Team India.
Let us tell you, recently after announcing the team for the Australia tour, selector Ajit Agarkar had said that he did not have any information about Shami's fitness. After which Shami had said before taking the field against Uttarakhand, 'If there is a fitness issue then I should not play for Bengal. I have played Champions Trophy 2025, IPL 2025, Duleep Trophy and I am in good touch. If I can play four-day cricket, I can also play 50-over cricket.
However, Agarkar did not seem to agree with Shami's statement. He said in a news channel event, 'He has been a great player for India and if he has said something then we both will talk about it. Even before the England tour, we had said that if he had been fit, he would have been there. If he is bowling well then why wouldn't you choose him in the team. But in the last 6-8 months or a year, we saw that he was not fit, we even wanted to take him to Australia last time, but he was not completely fit. If he remains fit then who knows, the situation may change in the next few months.
