India faces England on Sunday looking to revive its Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 campaign after suffering consecutive defeats in the tournament.

The last time the two sides met at a World Cup was during the 2022 edition in New Zealand, where England secured a four-wicket win with 112 balls to spare. Spinner Charlie Dean proved to be India’s chief tormentor, claiming four wickets as the Women in Blue were bundled out for 134 in 36.2 overs. Only Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh managed to cross the 30-run mark.

Defending a modest total, India began well as Jhulan Goswami and Meghna Singh (three for 26 in 7.2 overs) removed both England openers within the first three overs of the PowerPlay. However, an unbeaten half-century from Heather Knight and a composed 46-ball 45 from Nat Sciver-Brunt steered England to victory with ease.

The most recent ODI meeting between the two sides came earlier this year during India’s tour of England. The visitor posted 318, driven by a century from Harmanpreet Kaur, before young pacer Kranti Gaud’s six-wicket haul helped bowl out the host for 305 with a ball to spare.
