Delhi: The Caribbean team has suffered a big setback during the ongoing three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and West Indies. The team’s fast bowler Shamar Joseph is out of the remaining matches due to injury. Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed this news before the second ODI.
In the first ODI, West Indies had to face defeat by 74 runs. Now, along with the challenge of making a comeback in the series, the team will also miss its key bowler.
Joseph had earlier been out of the two-Test series against India due to injury. The team was hopeful that he would make a comeback to international cricket during the Bangladesh tour. He was included in the ODI team and was also given a place for the T20 series.
However, Cricket West Indies issued an official statement on 21 October stating that Joseph complained of shoulder pain and the medical team would further examine his condition.
Fast bowler Shamar Joseph has not played any competitive match since the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. He was able to play only five matches for Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL. In such a situation, his exclusion from the series is being considered a big blow for the West Indies bowling unit. Now it remains to be seen how the West Indies team performs in the remaining two ODI matches in his absence.
Apart from Shamar Joseph, another West Indies fast bowler Jedediah Blades has also been ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh due to injury. Blades has been found to have a stress fracture in his lower back, due to which he will be out of not only this series but also the upcoming New Zealand tour.
23-year-old Blades has so far played nine matches for West Indies in the limited overs format. He will now return home and start his rehabilitation.
The second ODI between Bangladesh and West Indies will be played on 21 October and the third and final match will be played on 23 October.
