Delhi: The next edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will not be played as per its schedule this year. Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) made its official announcement on Wednesday. In fact, Sri Lanka is the co-host country of the Men’s T20 World Cup next year, and the board does not want to leave any stone unturned in the preparations for this big event. Let us tell you that the T20 World Cup 2026 will be played between India and Sri Lanka.
Full focus on World Cup preparations
SLC said in its statement, “As per ICC guidelines, it is mandatory for the upcoming 20-team T20 World Cup to prepare all the venues as per the requirements of the international competition.”
For this reason, the Board has decided to postpone the Lanka Premier League, so that it can pay full attention to improving the infrastructure of the stadiums, modernizing the players’ facilities, increasing broadcasting capabilities and other preparations.
Renovation work continues in three international stadiums
Renovation work is currently going on in three international cricket stadiums in Sri Lanka. Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium is currently hosting the matches of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. As soon as the tournament ends, improvement work will be started here again.
LPL will be rescheduled at the right time
SLC clarified that postponing the LPL is a strategic move, so that all stadiums and facilities meet world class standards before the World Cup. The board also assured that the Lanka Premier League will be organized again at the right time.
