India’s Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 game against New Zealand at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday has been interrupted continuously by rain.
With three losses on the trot against the biggest sides in the tournament (South Africa, Australia and England), India finds itself dangerously close to a league stage exit in a home World Cup.
How can India qualify for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 semifinals?
Both India and New Zealand sit on four points with two matches remaining, though India holds the edge because it has more wins, which takes precedence over NRR.
As it stands:
| Team | Points | Wins | Net Run Rate |
| India | 4 | 2 | 0.526 |
| New Zealand | 4 | 1 | -0.245 |
A win over New Zealand would lift India to six points with three victories and book its place in the semifinals. However, a loss would leave qualification hanging by a thread — India would then need to beat Bangladesh in its final league match and hope the White Ferns falter against England. Should New Zealand prevail there, it will go through.
In case of a no result, the result affects New Zealand adversely, given it has more wins than New Zealand, holding it in good stead in the race to secure that final semifinal spot on offer. A win against Bangladesh will comfortably see India through.
