Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has dismissed Virat Kohli’s retirement rumours despite the batter’s gesture towards the fans during the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI at the Adelaide Oval. Kohli has recorded two ducks so far and is looking completely out of touch, with many thinking that he would announce his retirement after the third and last contest against the Mitchell Marsh-led team.

“He has scored more than 14,00 runs and he is allowed a couple of failures. There is plenty of cricket left in him. There is a possibility of him scoring runs in Sydney. Adelaide is his favourite ground in Australia, and he has scored hundreds here. So everyone was expecting a big knock from him, but it didn’t come,” Gavaslar told Sports Tak.

“He was given a wonderful ovation. The majority of the fans were Australians, and they stood up for him. It is not the end. There is a members’ stand from where the players come. I think Virat was acknowledging the ovation given by former players, administrators, and others,” he added.

Gavaskar also opined on Virat’s gesture for fans in Adelaide. “Virat will not give up easily, and he will not retire after scoring two ducks. He will retire on a high. There is a game left in Sydney, and then there is a home series against South Africa. I would say that Kohli, along with Rohit, would play the 2027 World Cup. He was acknowledging the fans. Don’t read too much into it,” he concluded.
