New Delhi, October 23 (Read News). Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday that GST officers should behave politely and sympathetically with honest taxpayers. He also called upon the officials to use technology for faster registration approvals and grievance redressal and to actively bring ease of doing business with the regional units.
Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said this in her address after the inauguration of the newly constructed Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) building in Ziabad.
Sitharaman said the new CGST building in Ghaziabad is a symbol of modern India’s commitment to good governance, where infrastructure meets innovation and efficiency aligns with empathy.
Sitharaman said the ultimate goal of tax administration is to make life easier for honest taxpayers and to do this, GST officials should follow the prescribed standard procedure and show more empathy and courtesy. He said, “It is important that you remain humble.” The Finance Minister further said that next generation revenue infrastructure is also needed to work in line with next generation taxation.
The Finance Minister said that GST 2.0 has created remarkable buzz globally and is a symbol of India’s progressive economic vision. Nirmala Sitharaman said, “There is no iron wall between you and the businessman, just a gust of wind.” You can understand where the problem lies, instead of adding to it.” He said that this will send a clear message from the CBIC Board that any kind of misconduct, dereliction of duty or unethical behavior by the officers will not be tolerated.
The new CGST building in Ghaziabad brings together CGST Ghaziabad Commissionerate, CGST Accounts Examination Commissionerate and CGST Appeal Commissionerate, and Pay and Accounts Office under one roof to achieve administrative synergy and operational efficiency, the Finance Ministry said in a statement. The new state-of-the-art green complex has two basements and seven floors, spread over 2.21 acres and provides parking facilities for approximately 300 vehicles. It has been constructed at a total cost of Rs 116 crore.
