India made a clean sweep of all aspects of the game to secure a quite overpowering nine-wicket win against Australia in the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. The Indian team chasing a target of 237 made it look easy and finished the job in only 38.3 overs. The highlight of the innings was a brilliant, unbeaten 168-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma was the star of the match as he scored a stylish 121 not out off 125 balls. Kohli was also instrumental in the turnaround as he came back very strongly after previously getting out for zero twice in the series and he made 74 not out off 81 balls. After the loss of Shubman Gill (24 off 26) wickets early in the innings, the duo didn’t let the team down and thus India was able to finish the series on a winning note.

Furthermore, Kohli was also applauded for a lovely gesture he made off the field. After the match, when the players were returning to the dressing room, he saw an Indian flag on the ground and without any delay, he took it up and gave it to a fan — a moment that went viral and won hearts across social media.

Beforehand, after Australia opted to bat first, India’s bowlers were the main characters as they delivered a very disciplined bowling performance. The young pacer Harshit was excellent in his best-ever figures of 4/39 and Washington Sundar also helped with 2/44. On the other side, Matt Renshaw was the top scorer with a gutsy 56 off 58 balls, but Australia’s total of 236 was not enough to defend against India’s dominant batting display.

The two sides will be playing a five-match T20I series starting Wednesday, October 29, at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, after the ODI series has been completed.
