Delhi: In the 26th match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, Australia women’s cricket team performed brilliantly and defeated South Africa by 7 wickets. This was Australia’s sixth consecutive win in the tournament, while South Africa suffered its second defeat. However, both the teams have already confirmed their place in the semi-finals.
Batting first, the South African team was reduced to just 97 runs in 24 overs. The team had started well and added 32 runs for the first wicket, but after this the fall of wickets started. Captain Laura Wolvaardt scored 31 runs and wicketkeeper batsman Sinalo Jafta scored 29 runs. Apart from these, Nadine de Klerk contributed 14 runs, while the rest of the batsmen could not touch double figures. Two players could not even open their accounts.
The team had lost its first 6 wickets in just 28 runs. In the end, the partnership of the last four batsmen took the score to 97.
Australia’s spinner Alana King bowled brilliantly and took 7 wickets. This was the second 5 wicket haul of his ODI career and his best performance so far. She dismissed Sune Luus (6), Marijan Kapp (0), Anne Derksen (5), Chloe Trianon (0), Sinalo Jafta (29), Masabata Klaas (4) and Nadine de Klerk (14). Alana took 7 wickets for just 18 runs including 2 maidens in 7 overs.
With this performance, Alana King has now become the best bowler for Australia in a match in women’s ODI history. He broke the record of Ellyse Perry, who took 7 wickets and gave 22 runs against England in 2019. Additionally, Alana has also become the first bowler to take 7 wickets in Women’s ODI World Cup history.
Chasing the target, Australia won easily by scoring 98 runs losing 3 wickets in 16.5 overs. On behalf of the team, Beth Mooney scored 42 runs, while Georgia Wall remained unbeaten after scoring 38 runs.
Alana King has become only the third bowler for Australia to take 5 wicket hauls twice in ODIs. He has equaled Lynn Fulston and Jess Jonassen, who had taken 5 wicket hauls 2 times each in their career.
