AUS-W vs SA-W: The defending champion Australia, who came to defend its title, registered another resounding victory in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. The Australian women's team, which has already reached the semi-finals of the tournament, defeated South Africa in a one-sided fashion by 7 wickets in its last match of the league stage. More than the margin of victory of Australia, its style was most special and scary for other teams because the defending champion team defeated South Africa for just 97 runs and then won the match within 101 balls.
The Australian team, which is in such devastating form, will now face Team India in the semi-finals.The 26th match of the Women's World Cup was played on Saturday 25 October at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Apart from Australia, the South African team had also confirmed its place in the semi-finals before this match. In such a situation, this match was important for securing the first place in the points table and deciding the line-up of the semi-finals. In this case, Australia won and retained its hold on first place.
But the manner in which Australia did this was like a big warning for Team India before the semi-finals.South Africa batted first in this match and once again captain Laura Woolworth made a fast start. But as soon as he was out in the 7th over, the South African innings started faltering and the reason for this was Australian spinner Elana King. 29 year old leg spinner King dismissed Sune Lees in the 12th over and after that he took a flurry of wickets. King continued to send the South African batsmen back to the pavilion one by one and in the 24th over itself, the entire South African team collapsed on a paltry score of just 97 runs.
King also took the last wicket and in this way, with 7 wickets (18 runs) in 7 overs, she made a new record for the best bowling in a match of the Women's World Cup.This was the second time in the tournament when the South African team was out on a score of less than 100 runs. In its very first match of the league stage, it was bundled out for 69 runs against England. Like that match, this time too it proved impossible for him to save a small score.
However, South Africa saw a ray of hope by giving the first blow in the third over and the second blow to Australia at the score of 11 runs in the sixth over. But Georgia Wall and Beth Mooney extinguished these rays by making a quick partnership of 76 runs. Australia achieved this target by losing 3 wickets in just 16.5 overs. With this result, Australia retained its first position with 13 points, while South Africa is at second position with 10 points. England is at third place with 9 points, while the Indian team is at fourth place with 6 points.
India and England have one match each left but their results will not affect the semi-final line-up as they have already been decided.First ranked Australia will face fourth ranked India. The second semi-final of the World Cup between India and Australia will be played on October 30 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. There was an earlier clash between the two in the 2017 World Cup semi-finals, where India had won. The first semi-final will be played between South Africa and England in Guwahati on 29 October.
