Two Australia cricketers who participated in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 were molested in Indore.

The players were allegedly stalked and molested by a motorcyclist in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, Police said on October 25.

The incident occurred on Thursday, two days before Australia’s clash against South Africa in the tournament in the Khajrana Road area on Thursday morning, while the team was going to a cafe from the Radisson Blu Hotel.

After the team’s staff made complaints, the accused was caught by the police. He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately and rode off.

The duo contacted their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local security liaison officers and dispatched a vehicle for assistance.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the two players, recorded their statements and registered a first information report under section 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the MIG Police station.

The Official said that a bustander noted the suspect’s motorcycle number, based on which the accused, Aqeel Khan, was apprehended.

“The Indore Police Commissionerate held a meeting with the stakeholders, BCCI and MPCA, after which security protocols were put in place. We are examining where the security protocol was breached. The incident happened on October 23 around 11am and within the next six hours, we carried out an intensive strategic operation and arrested the culprit. The incident happened when they were headed to a cafe from hotel Radisson.”

“CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore,” Cricket Australia said in a statement. “The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter.”

The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has described the incident as ‘very condemnable and assured to ‘revisit our safety protocols if required.”

The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association has expressed disppointment by the statement saying that, “”deeply pained and shocked by the disturbing incident of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour with two players from the Australian Women’s Cricket Team in Indore.”

“No woman should ever have to endure such trauma, and our thoughts and support are with those impacted by this distressing incident. This unfortunate event has deeply affected everyone from MPCA who cherishes the values of respect, safety, and dignity of women.”

“It is truly inspiring to see the players rise above this painful experience and continue to compete with courage and determination, carrying the pride of their nation on their shoulders in the match against South Africa,” the Madhya Pradesh Statement added.

Australia ended the league stage on top of the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 table after a comfortable victory against South Africa.

They will play their semi finals game against India on October 30 at Dr. DY Patil Sports AcademyNavi Mumbai.
