The England opener Amy Jones went on to post a solid victory against New Zealand in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 game played on October 27 at Vizag.

She made a stellar knock of 86* runs off 92 deliveries, setting up a comfortable 8-wicket win for England.

Batting first, Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer opened the innings while Lauren Bell opened the bowling attack.

Linsey Smith bagged the wicket of Bates for 10 runs, and Plimmer and Amelia Kerr stabilised the innings, scoring 57 runs in the powerplay.

With the dismissal of Kerr for 35 runs, Charlie Dean bagged the wicket of Georgia Plimmer for 43 runs.

Sophie Ecclestone has picked the crucial wicket of Brook Halliday for 4 runs. Isabella Gaze and Sophie Devine’s couldn’t add up much runs as they sent back to dug out for 18 and 23 runs.

After their dismissal New Zealand did not stand up much to England’s bowling attack as they got restricted for 168 runs in the 39th over.

Linsey Smith bagged three wickets while Nat Sciver-Brunt and Alice Capsey went on to bag 2 wickets each to rip up New Zealand’s batting line up.

In the pursuit of chasing 169 runs, Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont opened the batting line up for England.

The duo made a solid start post 50 runs in the powerplay. Adding up 75 runs for the first wicket, Tammy Beaumont got dismissed for 40 runs by Lea Tahuhu on a lbw.

Heather Knight joined Amy Jones to quicken their run chase, and scored before being dismissed by Sophie Devine for 33 runs. Meanwhile, Amy Jones went on to smash fifty and looked well settled.

By this time, England almost clinched victory in the game. With Danni Wyatt and Amy Jones at crease, Nat Sciver-Brunt’s side went on to post a comfortable 8 wicket victory at Vizag.

Amy Jones was named Player of the Match. Speaking at the post match conference, Jones said, “I found it quite challenging. It was a bit slow, a little bit frustrating, but yeah, happy to sort of get through that. I thought Tammy was brilliant at the start – definitely took a lot of pressure off me when I found it a bit harder.”

“It’s obviously hugely exciting to be in the semi-final and to finish second. I think, yeah, we’re all very happy with that. Definitely. I think, I guess we’ve done that twice in the tournament so far – with, you know, poor performance and then bouncing back really quickly, which has been really positive,” added Jones.

“So, definitely gives us confidence going into the semi. (Devine) I think it was, you know, great for Sophie to get this recognition.”

“She’s obviously a legend of the game and it’s really clear to see how much she means to the Kiwis and everyone else in the women’s game, both on the pitch and off the pitch as a great person too. So, yeah, really happy she’s had such a successful career,” concluded Amy Jones.

England will play in the first semi finals game against South Africa on October 29 at Guwahati.
