The 32-year-old Blair Tickner has been added to the New Zealand squad for the remainder of the ODI series against England as a replacement for Kyle Jamieson.
Jamieson sustained after suffering on the left side. On the eve of the first ODI, the Black Caps took to X to share an update about the pacer, saying that, “BlackCaps pace bowler Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of the upcoming Chemist Warehouse ODI series after experiencing stiffness in his left side during training at Bay Oval.”
The 30-year-old will return to Christchurch this afternoon for further assessment with a target of returning for the tour by the tour of the West Indies.
The Blackcaps registered a win in the first ODI match of the England tour of New Zealand 2025 and will hope to replicate the success in the upcoming games.
Blair Tickner will join the side in Hamilton for the remainder of the series. Tickner has played 13 ODIs for the kiwi side, picking 16 wickets.
“Blair’s an experienced campaigner and no stranger to international cricket,” New Zealand coach Rob Walter said. “He bowls a heavy ball from a decent height with plenty of energy and aggression. In that respect he can fill a similar role to what Kyle would normally perform,” he continued.
Speaking on the match, New Zealand head coach Rob Walter, “It was a good start to the series, and I thought the bowlers set the tone superbly,” Walter said. “For Zak Foulkes to claim 4-41 in his first bowl in ODI cricket, including the big wickets of Ben Duckett, Joe Root and Jacob Bethell, showed the level of talent and composure he possesses.”
“It was encouraging to see the middle order then step up with the bat on a tricky wicket and I thought Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell showed their experience to help guide us to the target.”
“Seddon Park will bring new conditions and challenges, and we know England will be highly motivated to bounce back and level the series.”
