He then shifted his focus to the brilliant 168-run partnership between Rohit and Virat Kohli, calling it ‘outstanding’ as well.
In the third ODI against Australia on Saturday, the experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gave a timely reminder of their quality with a 168-run stand for the second wicket. Their vintage ‘Ro-Ko’ performance brought a sense of calmness to the fans, settling any concerns over their spots in the Indian lineup. After the game, head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the team in the dressing room, offering some vital advice to the batting unit.
Gambhir started his address by commending the 69-run stand between openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, emphasising its significance in the successful chase of 237 runs. He then shifted his focus to the brilliant 168-run partnership between Rohit and Virat Kohli, calling it ‘outstanding’ as well.
“I felt the partnership between Shubman and Rohit was crucial when we were 60 for no loss. Then, the stand between Rohit and Virat was equally exceptional. But the key takeaway was that you finished the job, and Virat did the same,” he said in a video shared by the BCCI.
“I think that was very important from the team’s perspective, demonstrating how clinical we can be in these chases, and we did it really well.”
Rohit confessed after the game that it might be the last time he and Kohli played in Australia, as both players are nearing the end of their international careers.
Rohit was named Player of the Series for his outstanding contributions, while Kohli was pleased to have ended his run of two ducks.
