IND vs BAN: Bowling coach Salvi defends India’s team combination amid pace attack question

Playing a solitary specialist pacer or two has been a conundrum India appears to have faced right through its Women’s ODI World Cup campaign. Bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi, however, stated that the strategic calls over the combination is due to the horses-for-courses approach.

“For us, all the 15 are match winners for us, so depending on the kind of wicket we are playing on and the kind of opposition (we are facing), we build our playing XI. There is no inconsistency or anything,” Salvi said here on Saturday, the eve of India’s last league encounter against Bangladesh.

“It just the best 11 that we would like to go depending upon the surface and the opposition that it is.

Salvi hoped Richa Ghosh – the wicketkeeper-batter who injured her left hand during India’s win at DY Patil Stadium on Thursday that confirmed its qualification for the semifinal – is fine but did not reveal whether she will be available for selection on Sunday.

“She is fine and the S&C (strength and conditioning) team is taking care of it. They are still discussing (her availability), I don’t have the exact updates about it, but she looks fine,” Salvi said.
