The India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided a latest update on Shreyas Iyer’s injury ahead of the T20I series against Australia on October 29.

His comment came shortly after Shreyas Iyer was reportedly moved out of the ICU in a Sydney hospital, easing concerns over his health.

Suryakumar Yadav revealed that the dressing room was shaken after the ‘rare and unfortunate’ injury of Shreyas Iyer in the third and final ODI against Australia.

Shreyas Iyer suffered a blow to his left rib cage after completing a difficult running catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana’s bowling.

Speaking to the media ahead of the five-match T20I series against Australia at Manuka Oval, Suryakumar Yadav said, “When we saw that catch from the outside, we thought it was a normal play. But the players who were there at that time said that after he went to the dressing room, it felt like Iyer needed medical attention.”

Earlier on Monday, a source said that Iyer had collapsed in the dressing room and his vital parameters had dropped, prompting immediate hospitalisation.

“Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation,” stated BCCI.

Scans revealed internal bleeding caused by a laceration in the spleen, following which he was admitted to the ICU for close monitoring.

“Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment medically stable, and recovering well.”

“Then he was taken to the specialist. Doctors and physiotherapists said that what happened was unfortunate and rare. But he is recovering well, and BCCI is in full support,’ Surykumar added.

“The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress,” the statement further added.

India is gearing up for the T20I series against Australia which begins on October 29 at Manuka OvalCanberra.
