Left out of the Indian team, Mohammed Shami has given another reply to selection panel head Ajit Agarkar with five wickets for Bengal against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy. Shami registered figures of 5/38 as his team secured a 141-run win. In the first innings, he dismissed three batters.
Bengal’s win was set up by the batters and bowlers, who didn’t allow the rivals to settle down. Gujarat dismissed Bengal for 279 runs. Sudip Gharami (56), Abishek Porel (51) and Sumanta Gupta (63) were magnificent with the bat for Bengal. Siddharth Desai picked up four wickets for Gujarat.
Shahbaz Ahmed’s 6 for 34 restricted Gujarat to 167. In the second innings, Bengal declared their innings at 214 for 8, giving Gujarat a target of 327 at the Eden Gardens.
Sudip Gharami (54) and Anustup Majumdar (58) were among the runs for the hosts. Chasing 327 runs, Gujarat were rocked by Mohammed Shami.
Although Urvil Patel amassed 109 runs, Gujarat were undone by Bengal’s bowling display. Shahbaz and Shami picked up eight wickets between them. Shami got rid of Urvil Patel as Gujarat were dismissed for 185.
