Michael Clarke believes Rohit Sharma doesn’t get enough credit for his leadership in white-ball cricket. His commented after Rohit’s brilliant unbeaten century in the final ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25 October.

Rohit delivered a vintage knock in what could be his last international appearance on Australian soil, smashing an unbeaten 121 from 125 deliveries to script a convincing nine-wicket victory for India. His composed innings dismantled the Australian bowling attack and earned him the Player of the Match award. Although India lost the three-match series 1–2, Rohit was named the Player of the Series.

Rohit Sharma ranks among India’s most successful white-ball captains, having led the team to ICC glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

On the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast (20:00), Michael Clarke also praised Virat Kohli while speaking about Rohit Sharma’s leadership.

“What a way for both players to sign off from Australia. I’ve always loved the way he (Rohit) plays. He’s been superb here despite the conditions being so different from India. His captaincy is underrated. He was an excellent leader for India in the shorter formats and, without doubt, one of the finest white-ball players of his era. He’s definitely part of that group,” he said.

“Once again, Virat is the best ODI cricketer that I’ve ever seen, simply because of how often he’s won games for his team. The batting conditions in Sydney were much better, especially when chasing, unlike the previous two matches where they lost the toss and had to bat first. If conditions were similar, the outcome of the series might have been different,” he added.
