The incident took place in the eastern area of Melbourne, where cricketer Ben Austin got badly injured while practicing in the nets. Ben Austin was taken to the hospital in injured condition, but his life could not be saved. Austin was injured on Tuesday, October 28. Whereas he died in the hospital on 30 October i.e. Thursday.
17 year old Ben Austin played for Ferntree Gully Cricket Club in Melbourne East. The club issued a statement on the morning of 30 October informing about the death of the young cricketer. The club said that they are saddened by the death of Ben Austin. The entire cricket community has been affected by this incident. The club said through social media that its condolences are with the cricketer's family in this difficult time.
According to the information received, 17 year old Ben Austin was a batsman, who was practicing batting in front of the bowling machine in the nets. During this time the young cricketer also wore a helmet. But, the ball hit his neck, due to which he was badly injured. According to the statement of Ambulance Victoria, this incident happened before 5 pm on October 28. During that time he got a call from Ferntree Gully Cricket Club. The cricketer was admitted to the nearby Monash Medical Center in a critical condition by ambulance, where he died.
This case of death of young cricketer Ben Austin in Australia has come to light exactly a decade after the incident of Phil Hughes. Phil Hughes also died after being hit on the neck by a ball while batting in the Sheffield Shield in 2014. He too was taken to the hospital after being injured, where he died. After the death of Phil Hughes, a lot of emphasis was placed on safety equipment in cricket.
