India created history by defeating defending champions Australia by 5 wickets in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. This was the biggest successful run chase in the history of the Women’s World Cup. With this victory, India has confirmed its place in the final, where it will face South Africa on November 2.
Delhi: India created history by defeating defending champions Australia by 5 wickets in the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This was the biggest successful run chase in the history of the Women’s World Cup. With this victory, India has confirmed its place in the final, where it will face South Africa on November 2.
Batting first, Australia scored 338 runs in 49.5 overs. Phoebe Litchfield played a brilliant inning of 119 runs in 93 balls. Ellyse Perry scored 77 runs and Ashley Gardner scored 63 runs in 45 balls to take the team to a big score. For India, Shri Charni and Deepti Sharma took 2-2 wickets, while Kranti Gaur, Radha Yadav and Amanjot Kaur got 1-1 success.
India did not have a good start while chasing the huge target of 339 runs. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana were out early. But, after this, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues together changed the direction of the game. Both of them made a brilliant partnership of 167 runs for the third wicket.
Harmanpreet scored 89 runs in 88 balls, while Jemimah Rodrigues scored unbeaten 127 runs in 134 balls and took the team to the destination of victory. In the end, Deepti Sharma (24), Richa Ghosh (26) and Amanjot Kaur (15) played quick innings to give India victory. Amanjot took India to the final by hitting a four in the last over.
As soon as the victory was reached, Jemima and Amanjot hugged each other. Harmanpreet had tears in her eyes and the entire stadium echoed with slogans of “India, India” and all Indians started celebrating this historic moment.
With this historic 5-wicket win, the Indian women’s team has reached the final of the World Cup. The final match will be played against South Africa on 2 November. The team will now aim to create history and win the Women’s World Cup title for the first time.
