Mitchell Marsh the Australia captain has added yet one more milestone to his name by going beyond 2,000 runs in T20 International cricket. In effect, he has become only the fourth Australian batsman to do so, thus, being the one to follow the three outstanding players of David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Glenn Maxwell.

At the beginning of the innings in the second T20I against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Marsh was only four runs short of the milestone and he got there in the second over of the chase. The all-rounder is now the third-fastest Australian to have gone beyond the 2,000-run mark in the shortest format which is a great indication of his regularity and influence in the top order.

India struggled, but Mitchell Marsh lead the charge

Earlier, India had a tough time with the bat as they scored only 125 runs before being bowled out. No Indian batsman except Abhishek Sharma made a significant contribution. The left-handed opener played a brilliant knock of 68 off 37 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes to keep India’s innings going.

While the rest of the top order was bright only for Abhishek Sharma’s innings, Gill struggled to score five off ten balls, Sanju Samson got promoted to No. 3 and walked out for just two, and Captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for one which led a collapse that left India in a very bad position.

Harshit Rana had some fight left in him as he scored 35 off 33 balls and along with Abhishek, they formed a partnership of 56 runs — the only partnership of the match for India. However, after Harshit’s dismissal, the lower order got out in a flash, and the innings ended with eight balls still to go.

With a return of 3 for 13 in his four overs, including an amazing 15 dot balls, Josh Hazlewood was the main man with the ball. His pinpoint line and length tore apart India’s top order. To help him, Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis got two wickets each to make sure that India did not get any going.
