Jemimah Rodrigues ’ stunning century in India’s record chase against Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup semifinal has not only taken the team to the final but also sent social media into a frenzy.
Following her unbeaten 127 in Navi Mumbai, an old post by former England captain and commentator Nasser Hussain has resurfaced, earning widespread attention for how accurately he predicted Jemimah ’s rise.

“Remember the name... Jemimah Rodrigues.. did some throw downs with her today .. she’s going to be a star for India,” Hussain had posted, alongside a picture with the then-teenager.
The post, made more than seven years ago when Jemimah was just 17, has gone viral since India’s victory on Thursday. Fans have been sharing the image, praising Hussain’s keen eye for spotting talent early.
Jemimah, who came in at No. 3, played one of the finest innings of her career, anchoring India’s chase of 339, which is also the highest successful pursuit in Women’s World Cup history. Her 167-run partnership with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89) was the foundation of India’s win.
Speaking after the match, Jemimah reflected on her composure during the chase. “I was telling Harry di (Harmanpreet) that we both have to finish it,” she said. “When that (Harmanpreet's dismissal) happened, it was like a blessing in disguise for me because I was kind of losing focus because of tiredness. But when Harman got out, I think that added more responsibility to me.”
The 25-year-old also spoke openly about her struggles with anxiety earlier in the tournament, acknowledging the role of her teammates and family in helping her stay grounded.
Jemimah’s emotional century has not only propelled India into the final against South Africa but has also reignited admiration for her journey. Hussain, it turns out, had seen it coming long before most others.
