Former cricketer Irfan Pathan has criticized the innings of Abhishek Sharma (68 runs) against Australia. Pathan said that after the powerplay, Abhishek lost his rhythm and game awareness. He said that when Harshit Rana was playing more balls, Abhishek, being India’s No. 1 T20 batsman, should have taken responsibility by taking more strikes.
Delhi: Former Team India cricketer Irfan Pathan has criticized Abhishek Sharma despite his brilliant inning of 68 runs in the second T20I against Australia. Pathan commented that although Abhishek batted incredibly well in the powerplay, he was unable to score runs at the same pace as the innings progressed, which clearly showed his lack of game awareness.
Pathan said on his YouTube channel, “Abhishek Sharma once again showed that while everyone else was batting on one pitch, he was batting on another. It was a brilliant half-century, a tremendous innings, but if you look closely, you will realize that there were two parts to it. During the powerplay, he batted beautifully, but after it was over, he should continue with the same intent and intelligence.” Which he did not do.”
Abhishek was India’s top scorer against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). At one time the Indian team was in trouble at the score of 49/5, then the left-handed batsman Harshit Rana The 56-run partnership with K.K. gave some stability to the team and helped it cross the 100-run mark.
One of the main reasons for Abhishek’s run-scoring pace breaking was that Harshit spent too many balls. Although Harshit scored 35 runs, he took 33 balls and his strike rate was only 106.6.
However, Pathan believes that Harshit did what was necessary according to the situation. He ensured that the team did not lose another wicket. Pathan instead criticized Abhishek, saying that when he needed to take responsibility, he did not do so.
Pathan said, “Harshit did his job. He ensured that the team did not lose another wicket and played a good innings of 35 runs. As a lower-order batsman, that’s all you can ask for. You can talk about the strike rate later, but he did what was required.”
Pathan continued, “Now, what was Abhishek Sharma’s responsibility there? The powerplay was good, he played freely, and he remained calm even when wickets fell around him. But during that partnership, most of the strike went to Harshit Rana – Abhishek faced just 14 balls out of 47. That’s where he had to take charge. There is no doubt that he is India’s No. 1 T20 batsman at the moment, but he needs better game awareness.” Will have to be shown.”
Australia has taken a 1-0 lead in the series and now India will be desperate for a win in the third T20I to be held at Bellerive Oval, Hobart on November 2.
