Overview:

The BCCI has a history of rewarding the women’s side for impressive performances.

The BCCI is reportedly planning a major reward for the Indian women’s team if they go on to lift the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The board is expected to offer a prize amount similar to the money given to the men’s team after their T20 World Cup victory in 2024.

A PTI report has revealed that the apex body of the Indian cricket will match the INR 125-crore reward that was given to Rohit Sharma’s team after their success in the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Although no formal announcement has been made, talks are reportedly in progress.

“The BCCI stands by its equal-pay policy for both men and women, so there is active conversation about ensuring that, if the women’s team wins the World Cup, their prize will be on par with what the men received after their World Cup title. However, it wouldn’t be appropriate to announce anything before the trophy is actually won,” a BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The BCCI has a history of rewarding the women’s side for impressive performances. After India reached the 2017 ODI World Cup final and narrowly missed the title by nine runs against England, every squad member was given a INR 50-lakh prize. Head coach Tushar Arothe and the rest of the support staff were also compensated for their role in the campaign.

If India’s women’s team manages to lift the trophy this time, the payout for each player could be nearly ten times higher than before.

With anticipation rising nationwide, the spotlight now turns to Harmanpreet Kaur and her squad as they look to capture India’s maiden Women’s World Cup crown.
