Deepti Sharma Shines as India Claim their Maiden ODI World Cup Title

After an impressive bat performance, Deepti Sharma went on to pick a 5-wicket haul to secure a 52-run victory in the finals of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India secured a stunning victory in the game to clinch their maiden ODI World Cup title.

After being invited to bat first, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana opened the innings while Marizanne Kapp opened the bowling attack.

The opening duo made a solid start, scoring 101 runs for the first wicket as Mandhana lost her wicket to Chloe Tryon for 45 runs.

Shafali Verma scored a fifty while Jemimah Rodrigues joined the opener to anchor the chase. With Shafali Verma’s dismissal for 87 runs, Jemimah Rodrigues went on to lose her wicket for 24 runs.

With Harmanpreet Kaur adding 20 runs to India’s total, Deepti Sharma went on to smash a fifty and Amanjot Kaur got dismissed cheaply, while Richa Ghosh added 34 runs before being dismissed by Ayabong Khaka.

In the final, Deepti Sharma scored 58 runs before being dismissed on a runout as India scored 298 runs in the 50-over innings.

In the pursuit of chasing 299 runs, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened the innings while Renuka Singh opened the bowling attack.

The first breakthrough came with the dismissal of Tazmin Brits for 23 runs. South Africa scored 52 runs in the power play, and Shree Charani got the wicket of Bosch.

Sune Luus went on to add 25 runs before being dismissed by Shafali Verma. She went on to bag the wicket of Kapp for 4 runs, leaving South Africa to lose 4 wickets for 123 runs.

With Wolvaardt and Jafta trying to anchor the innings, Deepti Sharma broke the budding partnership, dismissing the wicket-keeper-batter for 16 runs.

Deepti Sharma went on to pick the wickets of Annerie Dercksen for 35 runs, while Laura Wolvaardt smashed her century and scored 101 runs off 98 deliveries.

Deepti Sharma picked two wickets in the 42nd over, dismissing dangerous Laura Wolvaardt and Chloe Tryon for 101 and 9, respectively.

With Khaka’s dismissal on a runout, Deepti Sharma went on to pick the wicket of Nadine de Klerk for 18 runs, helping India to secure a 52-run victory at Navi Mumbai.
