The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has announced INR 51 crore Prize money for women’s World Cup winning team, as India claimed their maiden ODI World Cup title.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side secured a 52-run victory against South Africa in the finals of the marquee tournament played on November 02 at Navi Mumbai. After the heartbreaks in the 2005 and 2017 World Cup finals, India finally claimed the title of World Champions.

Speaking on the reward announcement, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said, “Since Jay Shah took charge of the BCCI as secretary from 2019 to 2024, he has implemented many changes in women’s cricket, including addressing pay parity.”

“Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah increased the women’s prize money by 300 per cent, raising it from $2.88 million to $14 million,” he added.

“These initiatives have significantly promoted women’s cricket. BCCI has also announced a prize of Rs 51 crore for the entire team, including players, coaches, and support staff.”

India received USD 4.48 million from the ICC for winning the World Cup, which is a significant increase from the USD 1.32 million that Australia received in the previous edition of the tournament.

On the other hand, the runner-up South Africa was awarded USD 2.24 million, while the losing semifinalists (Australia and England) will be rewarded with USD 1.12 million.

The total prize money of the tournament is USD 13.88 million, which is nearly four times higher than the prize money in the previous edition in 2022.

Devaijit Saikia also added that, “In 1983, Kapil Dev ushered in a new era of cricket by leading India to a World Cup victory. Today, the women’s team has created similar excitement.”

“Harmanpreet Kaur and her team have not only won the trophy but also the hearts of all Indians. They have inspired the next generation of women cricketers. Women’s cricket achieved a new milestone when our team triumphed over Australia in the semifinals,” concluded Devajit Saikia.
