Delhi: Australian team batsman Travis Head has been released from the ongoing T20I series against India due to preparations for the Ashes series. Now he will play for South Australia in the upcoming Sheffield Shield round. The selectors have taken this decision to manage the workload and priorities of the players ahead of the Ashes series (which starts later this month).
Head out of 5 match series
Head had taken part in the first three matches of the five-match T20I series, but has now joined the group of senior players returning to domestic red ball cricket.
Other senior players also returned
Along with Head, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are also ready to play in the New South Wales Shield match starting from Monday. Meanwhile, Cameron Green is expected to return to bowling in the match against Western Australia and Queensland at the WACA Ground. His return to bowling after back surgery was hampered by side soreness before the ODI matches against India last month.
Australia’s first Test match against England is scheduled to start on November 21 in Perth. The ongoing T20I series against India will conclude this weekend with matches to be played in Gold Coast and Brisbane.
