Former India player Rohan Gavaskar credited Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s win over Gujarat Titans. According to him, Will Jacks’ hundred helped the franchise to improve the net run rate, but Kohli took the side to a 9-wicket win over Gujarat Titans.
For the record, the 25-year-old England batter smashed an unbeaten 100 runs off 41 balls, laced with ten sixes and five ours. On the other hand, Kohli accumulated 70 not off 40 deliveries, including six sixes and three fours.
The 35-year-old Indian player also allowed his teammate to complete a hundred by taking the backseat. Gavaskar said Virat is a chase master in T20 cricket.
“Virat Kohli won the game for RCB and not Will Jacks. His hundred increased the net run rate of the franchise, but the senior batter should be applauded for the victory. Bengaluru should change more often in IPL.
“Kohli is renowned as a chase master in ODI cricket, but he does the same in the T20 format. He is the chase master in the shortest format of the game, as the player is winning games in the second innings. RCB would have won the game even if Will Jacks had not hit a hundred. The match would have finished in the 19th instead of the 16th,’ he said on Cricbuzz.
Rohan also spoke about Virat’s strike rate. “We are talking too much about Virat’s strike rate. He is batting the way he has batted throughout his career. There is nothing new. His strike rate was 160 against Gujarat Titans. Virender Sehwag once said that a strike rate is important if you put a total on the board. That’s what I believe. Even if you score runs at a strike rate of 100 and 80 and your team wins while chasing, there is no issue,” he added.
