The Women’s Premier League auction will be held in New Delhi on November 27. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the franchises that the one-day event will be held at a hotel in Aerocity.

With five teams and a maximum squad size of 18 players, about 90 players are expected to go under the hammer.

Earlier, the Board had informed the franchises that they can retain a maximum of five players – a maximum of three capped Indian players, and a maximum of two overseas players.

In case a franchise opts to retain five players, at least one of them should be an uncapped Indian player.

The franchises are excited about the Right to Match option, a new addition in the WPL auction. Several franchise officials told this publication that RTMs could help them keep their team’s core intact.

A franchise can use a maximum of five RTMs, but in case it retains five players, then the RTM option would be lost. Similarly, retaining four players would mean that the team will be left with one RTM; two RTMs for three players retained; three for two players retained.

In case, the franchise retains just one player, it can use up to four RTMs.

BCCI has fixed the auction purse at Rs 15 crore, with different retention slabs – Rs 3.5 crore for Player 1, Rs 2.5 crore for Player 2, Rs 1.75 crore for Player 3, and Rs 1 crore for Player 4. In the case of a fifth player, the price will be Rs 50 lakh.

“If a franchise opts to retain five players, Rs 9.25 crore would be deducted from its purse, while for four, the deduction would be INR 8.75 crore; for three it would be INR 7.75 crore; four two INR 6 crore; and for one INR 3.5 crore,” the communique states.

The teams need to submit their retention list by November 5, while November 18 is the last date for player registration.
