Delhi: Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has to be ruled out of the Big Bash League 2025-26 season. He himself gave this information by writing a long message on social media. Ashwin told that due to knee injury he will not be able to go to Australia and participate in this league.

Ashwin out of BBL

Ashwin was to play for Sydney Thunder team this season. He was going to become the first Indian male cricketer to play in this T20 league of Australia. But, due to injury he will no longer be able to be a part of the team. However, the franchise is hoping that if Ashwin recovers soon then he can make a comeback in the latter stages of the tournament.

Ashwin wrote in his statement, “I want to tell this myself. I injured my knee during training in Chennai. Now after a procedure, I need rest. I will miss BBL Season 15. I was very excited to play with this team, but now the focus will be on recovery. If everything goes well and the doctors allow me, I would like to join the team later.”

Ashwin further said that he got a lot of love and affection from the Sydney Thunder club, coach and players. He appealed to all the fans to continue supporting the team.

Earlier, Ashwin had announced his retirement from IPL in August 2025. After this he had signed an agreement with Sydney Thunder to play three matches for BBL. However, he could not be a part of that tournament due to not finding a buyer in the ILT20 league.

It is noteworthy that Sydney Thunder’s BBL campaign will start on December 16 this year with a match against Hurricanes in Hobart.
