Sanju Samson set to join Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2026 (Source: BCCI)
There are several unconfirmed reports suggesting that Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson could return to Delhi Capitals (DC), the franchise he represented for two seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The speculation gained traction following comments made by former India cricketer Aakash Chopra.
Chopra, while analysing Samson’s situation, noted that although the wicketkeeper-batter is expected to leave Rajasthan, his next destination remains unclear.
He proposed that DC could be a potential landing spot, as they are among the few franchises capable of accommodating Samson’s hefty INR 18 crore price tag.“If you need to exchange a good Indian player, who needs another Indian equally good or go for an all-cash deal,” said Chopra on his YouTube Channel.
There are a very few elite Indian players of Sanju Samson’s calibre available for trade, with South African batter Tristan Stubbs has emerged as a potential target.
It is understood that RR initially approached Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a swap deal involving Ravindra Jadeja, but the proposal was turned down. Should RR pursue Stubbs instead, they would have to pay around INR 8 crore, a considerable gap compared to Samson’s INR 18 crore valuation.Samson reportedly informed the franchise of his decision to leave after completing an eventful eight-season second stint with RR. He previously represented the Delhi-based franchise (Delhi Daredevils back then) in 2016 and 2017, during RR's suspension, and scored his maiden IPL century during that period.
Will DC trade KL Rahul?Meanwhile, Indian Test opener KL Rahul’s name has also surfaced in trade discussions. However, DC are reportedly reluctant to part ways with him, given his strong performances last season and significant brand value. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) remain interested in acquiring Rahul, viewing him as an experienced leader and reliable top-order batter.
The franchise is banking on the close relationship between Rahul and KKR’s new head coach, Abhishek Nayar, but as things stand, KKR appear short of a tradeable asset compelling enough to tempt Delhi into a deal.
