MS Dhoni’s captaincy has made Chennai a dominant force in the IPL, collecting five championships across the years (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023) while regularly qualifying for the playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings’ CEO Kasi Viswanathan clarified that MS Dhoni will return for the IPL 2026 edition, and mentioned that the legendary batter isn’t thinking about hanging up his boots anytime soon. Speaking to Noah, the CSK boss said Dhoni will continue in the upcoming IPL. “No, he is not retiring from IPL.”
When questioned about Dhoni’s retirement, he smiled and said, “I’ll talk to him and let you know.”
The 2025 season turned out to be one of CSK’s worst, with the franchise claiming only four wins and finishing 10th for the first time in their history.

“Well, it depends. Like I’ve said before, I still have four or five months to make a decision,” he told Harsha Bhogle.
“There’s no need to hurry. I’m not announcing retirement, but I’m not guaranteeing a comeback either,” he added.
