Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy: Niki Prasad stars as South Zone beats Central Zone

Captain Niki Prasad starred with both bat and ball as South Zone defeated Central Zone by 44 runs in a Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy round-robin fixture on Thursday at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima.

The South Zone side opened its account in the tournament after losing its opener against North Zone by 96 runs.

After winning the toss, Niki (38 off 38 balls) and S. Meghana (42 off 31 balls) rebuilt South Zone’s innings with a 40-run stand for the fourth wicket after the side lost three quick wickets in the PowerPlay.

The team posted 135 for eight in 20 overs.

Central Zone’s chase, however, ended before it could begin. The side lost four wickets for 31 runs in 8.2 overs before Mona (37 off 41 balls) waged a lone battle till the end.

South Zone’s Sahana Pawar and C. Prathyusha picked two wickets apiece, while Asha Sobhana, Niki, and Sajeevan Sajana took one wicket each to restrict Central Zone to 91 for nine in 20 overs.

Meghana was adjudged as the Player of the Match.

Earlier in the day, Niki was retained by three-time Delhi Capitals for the upcoming Women’s Premier League 2026 season.
