Why Did UP Warriors Not Retain Deepti Sharma: The retention list of the teams before the next season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has been revealed. There is a lot of discussion among fans regarding this. The biggest surprise came when UP Warriors did not retain Team India’s star all-rounder Deepti Sharma.
Let us tell you that recently Deepti Sharma had shown a brilliant performance in the World Cup 2025 and she was also selected as the Player of the Tournament. In such a situation, people could not understand why the team released a player who was in such form?
UP Warriors not only released Deepti Sharma, but also released veteran foreign players like Alyssa Healy, Sophie Ecclestone, Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath and Alana King among their core players. The franchise has retained only Shreyata Sehrawat for Rs 50 lakh. Team head coach Abhishek Nair said that the team’s aim is to prepare a strong and balanced team by entering the auction with more purse money.
“Retention is always a difficult process, especially when you keep world-class players in the team. But the franchise wanted us to move forward with a new strategy. We should have more money in the auction so that players can be selected for the team who can lead the team to the title by the end of the tournament,” Abhishek Nair said in a conversation on Geostar.
Abhishek Nair further indicated that this decision should not be considered final. It is possible that the Warriors may bid again on some released players in the auction and try to bring them back into the team at a lower price.
Deepti Sharma’s recent record has been impressive. He performed strongly with both bat and ball in the ODI World Cup, scoring 215 runs and taking 22 wickets in the tournament. In 25 WPL matches, he has scored 507 runs at an average of 28.16, including three half-centuries. Deepti Sharma has also taken 27 wickets in WPL at an economy rate of 8.29.
