IND vs SA Final: Shafali Verma takes wicket off first Women’s World Cup over

India opener Shafali Verma picked two wickets in two overs during the India vs South Africa Women’s ODI World Cup final at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

After impressing with the bat with a 78-ball 87 opening the innings, Shafali struck with the ball twice to remove Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur handed the ball to the 21-year-old in the 21st over, and with only her second delivery of her first World Cup over, she dismissed Luus (25) with a low return catch.

In her next over, she forced Kapp (4) to feather an edge off a ball sliding down the leg side, with Richa Ghosh completing an excellent catch behind the stumps.

Before Sunday, Shafali had only bowled 14 overs in ODIs and taken just one wicket.
