The 21-year-old scored 87 off 78 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, surpassing Poonam Raut’s 86 in the 2017 final against England.
She also went past her highest individual score in ODIs — her previous best was 71 not out — registered during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2022, her last half-century in the format.
The right-handed batter brought up a 100-run partnership with Smriti Mandhana for the first wicket, during which the pair also crossed 1000 partnership runs, becoming the 11th Indian duo to achieve the landmark.
Shafali was drafted into India’s World Cup squad as a replacement for Pratika Rawal, who was injured during the Women in Blue’s final league match against Bangladesh.
