India opener Shafali Verma notched up her fifth ODI half-century during the Women’s World Cup 2025 final against South Africa at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

The Haryana batter reached her fifty in 49 balls, smacking five fours and one six.

Her fourth fifty in the format came during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2022 where she remained unbeaten on 71. This remains her highest individual score in the format.

The 21-year-old returned to the ODI setup after nearly a year and was named in India’s playing XI against Australia in the semifinal.

She scored 10 in that match. Prior to that, her last appearance in the format came against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 29, 2024.

Shafali was drafted into India’s World Cup squad as a replacement for Pratika Rawal, who was injured during the Women in Blue’s final league match against Bangladesh.
