India and South Africa hope to win their maiden piece of silverware in women’s cricket when they meet in the ODI World Cup 2025 final on Sunday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The last time the two teams met in the World Cup was earlier in this edition in a league stage fixture at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

South Africa had beaten India by three wickets with seven balls to spare in that match thanks to Nadine de Klerk’s swashbuckling 54-ball 84.

After winning the toss, the Proteas had bundled out the home team for 251 in 49.5 overs. Richa Ghosh’s 94 and Sneh Rana’s 33 were instrumental in resurrecting India’s innings after a middle-order collapse.

Chloe Tryon was India’s chief tormentor with the ball, taking three wickets while de Klerk, Marizanne Kapp, and Nonkululeko Mlaba all took two wickets apiece.

Defending its total, India gave itself a good chance as South Africa was struggling at 81 for five in 19.5 overs. However, skipper Laura Wolvaardt played her innings deep into the middle overs to score 70, after which Tryon (49) and de Klerk added 69 runs for the seventh wicket to help the Proteas eventually cap off a famous win.

Kranti Goud and Sneh picked two wickets apiece for India.
