Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have confirmed their place at the second position in the points table of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 7 wickets at the Eden Gardens. In this match, mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty played an important role in his team's victory. He took 3 wickets for 16 runs in the spell, for which he was awarded the title of Player of the Match.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the 32-year-old Chakravarthy spoke at length about the impact player rule and said other bowlers should stop whining about it. He said, “Somewhere we have to accept that this IPL is different and we have to move forward. The impact player was there last season, the main thing is that teams have used him better this season. They want to charge in advance, no matter how much the bowlers cry, you have to accept the challenge.”

Regarding his bowling in the match against Delhi, the right-arm spinner said, “The wicket became quite quiet in the second innings. Certainly, the bowling in the first innings was good, the pitch was also a bit helpful. This pitch was a little more turning, it was not helping that much in other matches.”

The KKR spinner said that one of the main reasons for the difficulty in bowling is the humidity in Kolkata, as it has become very difficult to catch the ball. Varun said, “Kings have started sweating, it was not like this in the last few years, but I do not want to use it as an excuse.”

What are the impact player rules?

According to the Impact Player rule, after the toss, every team has to name five players apart from their playing eleven. The team can select one of these players as an impact player. This player can replace any other player in the playing eleven at any time in the match. The impact player can be used by the batting and bowling teams at any time in the match. It is being used well in the current IPL season.
