According to a report in Times of India, talks are going on between Mumbai and Kolkata regarding Markande. This deal is likely to be in the form of a cash swap. Kolkata had bought him for Rs 30 lakh, but he did not get a chance to play a single match in the last season. In the presence of established spin duo like Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, Markande is finding it difficult to make a place in KKR.
At the same time, he may get more opportunities to play in Mumbai, especially if the team wants to reorganize its spin options. Mumbai Indians’ spin attack has been their weakness for the last few seasons. The team has time and again had to rely on experienced but limited options like Piyush Chawla and Karn Sharma. Mayank Markande became famous for his googly and control in 2018 and reached the Indian team in 2019 on the basis of the same performance. Markande’s return could give Mumbai control and wicket-taking options in the middle overs.
The report also states that Mumbai Indians were in touch with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to bring back Rahul Chahar, although no concrete progress has been made so far. If this deal went through, Chahar would have played in the same franchise again with his brother Deepak Chahar. Both have previously played together in the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG) team. Apart from Mayank Markande, Mumbai Indians are said to be close to buying fast bowler Shardul Thakur from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 2 crore. At the same time, there is also a possibility of Arjun Tendulkar going to LSG.
