Jasprit Bumrah Blitz Skittles South Africa for 159 at Eden Gardens

Jasprit Bumrah made an impressive fifer during South Africa’s first innings in the first test played on November 14 at Eden Gardens.

He returned with exceptional bowling figures of 5/27 in 14 overs with an economy of 1.90. Out of 14, he went on to deliver 5 maiden overs.

Shubman Gill-led side is slated to face the WTC 2023-25 champions in a home tour. After choosing to bat first, South Africa’s Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton opened the innings and made a solid start, posting 57 runs for the first wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah gave the first breakthrough, dismissing Rickelton for 23 runs in the 11th over and went on to dismiss Aiden Markram for 62 runs in the 13th over.

Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Bavuma cheaply for 3 runs, while Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi did try to forge a partnership before Kuldeep Yadav picked his second wicket, dismissing Mulder for 24 runs.

With Tony de Zorzi’s dismissal for 24 runs by Jasprit Bumrah, Kyle Verreynne and Tristan Stubbs tried to anchor the innings. With Verreynne’s dismissal, the lower order collapsed.

Jasprit Bumrah went on to pick the last two wickets, Harmer and Maharaj, for 5 and 0 in the same over, helping India to bowl out South Africa for 159 runs.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav also bowled 14 overs, conceding 36 runs at an economy of 2.60. Siraj, who bowled 12 overs, conceded 47 runs with an economy of 3.90.

Bumrah picked five wickets while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav bagged two wickets each, with Axar Patel concluding with 1 wicket. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel went wicketless despite a good economy rate.
