Ankita entered the final by defeating former Indian number one and experienced archer Deepika Kumari in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the score of both the archers was equal at 5-5 and in the shoot-off also both of them scored nine points, but due to Ankita’s arrow being closer to the center, she was successful in making it to the final.

In the final, Ankita won the first set 29-27. The second set remained tied at 27-27. Nam Suhyeon led 28-26 in the third set, but Ankita performed brilliantly in the fourth set to take the lead 29-28. Showing his strength even in the deciding set, he won the gold medal.

With this, India also won the bronze medal in the women’s recurve event. Sangeeta defeated experienced archer and five-time Olympian Deepika Kumari 6-5 in the shoot-off. Ankita Bhakat’s victory proves India’s continued strong presence in Asian archery and has become a source of inspiration for young archers.
