If reports are true, the league could witness one of its biggest trade moves yet, with RR considering a deal that would send Sanju Samson to CSK, with the five-time champions offering Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran as part of the proposed swap.

CSK’s plans for the IPL 2026 auction have become a major talking point, fuelled by speculation over a possible Ravindra Jadeja–Sanju Samson swap. During a discussion, former Chennai off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shortlisted three cricketers he believes the five-time champions may target if they come to the auction.

“I know there’s plenty of chatter about Cameron Green going to CSK, but I feel they’ll focus on two specific players. David Miller, if he’s released, and Mohammad Shami, who is also likely to be released. Rahul Chahar could be another possible option,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“In terms of brand value, leadership opportunity, and the role he plays, this trade is perfect for both CSK and Samson. But if you look at CSK’s real requirement, they needed a lower-order hitter, someone to close out games. RCB must be delighted because they secured Tim David and Romario Shepherd for base amounts. I can imagine Dinesh Karthik and their staff smiling,” Ashwin explained.

“PBKS aren’t going to release anyone. Many are suggesting Glenn Maxwell should be released, but that’s mostly supporters from other teams who want him for his X-factor. With Ricky Ponting leading the setup, James Hopes assisting, and the finale behind them, why would they even consider releasing him?” he explained.

Ravichandran Ashwin has admitted he’s unhappy with reports suggesting Ravindra Jadeja could leave CSK, noting that such a move feels “out of character” for a franchise known for loyalty and consistency in its squad management.

On his YouTube channel Ash ki Baat, Ashwin acknowledged the frustration among supporters over Jadeja’s potential exit and admitted he feels CSK might have “overlooked something important.”

“I completely understand the fans’ attachment to Jadeja and why they’re upset, and this move seems out of character for CSK,” Ashwin commented. “Their frustration makes sense as CSK were built on long-term backing of players and a sense of stability, which became their identity. Naturally, Dhoni was the core. That’s why this decision is proving difficult for supporters. The more I think about the trade, the more I feel CSK may have misjudged it.”

“All I’ve seen on Instagram lately is people feeling upset about Jadeja leaving CSK. Even in the comments, fans are abusing us as though we were the ones who traded him. Some are asking me to tell CSK to reverse the move. For me, this trade is like chalk and cheese. RR filled a specific need, and CSK got the player they were looking for,” he concluded.
