In one of the biggest pre-auction shake-ups ahead of IPL 2026star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has opened up about his high-profile move from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Rajasthan Royals (RR). The IPL governing council confirmed on Saturday that Jadeja has officially joined RR as part of a swap deal that sent captain Sanju Samson to CSK. The transaction, valued at INR 14 crore for Jadeja and INR 18 crore for Samson, marks a significant shift for both teams as they gear up for the new season.
Shortly after the announcement, Jadeja issued his first reaction, expressing pride and nostalgia as he prepares to don the Royals jersey once again. The all-rounder shared that returning to the franchise where his IPL journey began holds a special place in his heart.
“Rajasthan Royals gave me my first platform and my first taste of victory,” Jadeja said in an official statement, recalling the memories of the early days when he was discovered and nurtured under the leadership of the late Shane Warne.
Jadeja added that coming back to the team after 15 years feels more like a homecoming than a transfer. He said: “Coming back feels special; it’s not just a team for me, it’s home. Rajasthan Royals is where I won my first IPL, and I hope to win more with this current group of players.”
For the Royals, the trade symbolizes the return of a player they once hailed as a future star. Jadeja played the first two IPL seasons with the franchise and was famously called a ‘rockstar’ by Warne, who recognized his raw talent early on. Although his journey took various turns — including a one-year suspension in 2010 — Jadeja eventually flourished into one of India’s most impactful all-rounders.
The Royals’ aggressive approach to the transfer window didn’t stop with Jadeja. The franchise also secured England all-rounder Sam Curran from CSK for INR 2.40 crore, strengthening an already dynamic team. The additions promise greater balance to RR’s lineup, offering depth in both the batting and bowling departments ahead of the 2026 season.
Jadeja’s presence is expected to play a crucial role, especially considering his ability to contribute in pressure situations — a quality that has defined much of his CSK career.
Jadeja’s move brings an emotional chapter to a close for the Super Kings fans. Having joined the team in 2012, the 36-year-old played a key role throughout CSK’s successes over the decade. Aside from the two seasons when CSK was suspended, Jadeja remained a pillar of the franchise and produced several iconic moments wearing the yellow jersey.
The highlight of his CSK stint came in the 2023 final when he smashed 10 runs off the last two balls to seal a dramatic win over Gujarat Titans, etching his name further into IPL folklore.
Now, as the Royals prepare for IPL 2026, Jadeja’s reunion with the side that launched his career brings both expectations and a sense of unfinished business.
