NEW DELHI: Teen batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to take the cricketing world by storm with his fearless strokeplay, as the 14-year-old smashed a blistering, joint second-fastest T20 century by an Indian batter, powering India A to a commanding 148-run win over UAE in the Asia Cup Rising Stars on Friday.
Despite his record-breaking knock, Vaibhav said impressing his father is never easy, while his mother is the complete opposite – always happy even if he gets out for a duck.
The BCCI shared a video of Vaibhav speaking with his father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, in which he was seen offering technical advice to his son, “Had you played that shot a bit higher over the covers, it could’ve been a six.” Suryavanshi responded with a smile, saying, “Couldn’t connect properly, the ball was slower.”
“Dad is not easily impressed. Even if I had scored 200 today, he would still feel like I could have scored more,” he said.
He added that his mother reacts differently, saying, “Even if I score a 100 or 0, she is always happy and tells me to keep doing well.”
“I don’t try to do anything extraordinary. I just back my game and work hard. If I try something too different, it will neither help myself or the team,” he said.
“If I had batted a little longer, we could have added 20-30 runs more and it could have been some sort of a personal record too,” Vaibhav reflected briefly on his innings.
The 14-year-old opening batter smacked a total of 15 sixes and 11 fours to make 144 off 42 balls, while equaling the mark of India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant who had a 32-ball century for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in 2018.
Suryavanshi, who made his debut in the IPL last season, already holds the record for the second fastest century in the competition off 35 balls, when he scored 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.
