Delhi: The Indian cricket team had to face defeat by 30 runs against South Africa on Sunday, the third day of the first Test match played in Kolkata. This defeat was very disappointing for Indian cricket fans and experts. Chasing an easy target of just 124 runs, Team India collapsed for 93 runs.

Hopes of winning the series are over, now only draw option

With this defeat, India’s chances of winning the two-match Test series have ended. Now the team has only one chance to end the series on a draw. If India wins the second Test in Guwahati, the result will be a draw, which many experts are considering as a psychological victory for South Africa.

Ganguly’s advice to Gambhir

Former Indian captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly has advised Gautam Gambhir after this defeat that he should trust his bowlers. Ganguly said that Test matches are won not in three days, but in five days.

Ganguly also mentioned Mohammed Shami, who Gambhir has kept out of the Test team. He said, “They should have confidence in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Shami and their spinners that they can win matches for India. Test matches are not won quickly, they are won in full five days.”

Ganguly’s statement on pitch controversy

Questions have been raised about the Eden Gardens pitch because the spinners got a lot of help in the match. South African bowlers took full advantage of this spin-friendly pitch and registered victory against India. Ganguly made it clear that this was the same pitch which Team India had demanded.

He said, “There is no dispute in this. It was not a good Test pitch, but India had to score only 124 runs. Gambhir had demanded such a pitch and instructions were also given to the pitch curator. The right thing is that we should play on good and balanced pitches.”
