As the IPL 2026 auction draws nearer, franchises will be compelled to reshape their line-ups and cover the holes exposed in the last season. One of the names that might draw considerable interest is Rovman Powell from KKR, the fiery West Indies power-hitter who has made a mark as a versatile finisher in T20 leagues worldwide.

At the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), last season was a bit limited for Rovman Powell, and he was more often than not overshadowed by Andre Russell. His massive hitting, great leadership, and vast experience, among others, mark him out as a very important player for the franchises that are trying to rebuild their lower middle order. He has already played for the Delhi Capitals for two years and was with the Rajasthan Royals for one year.

Powell is in great form. He was the top scorer for the Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, where he finished with 241 runs in nine innings at an average of 48.20 and was incredibly efficient with a strike rate of 183.96. Besides, in the recent 13 T20Is that he played for West Indies, he has scored a total of 308 runs in 13 innings at an average of 30.8 and a strike rate of 156.34, including one fifty.

Now, if KKR choose to let him go before the auction,

Why Finishers Like Rovman Powell Are in High Demand
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
The Batman woes of the team were visible in the last season, with the veteran David Miller unable to come back to his old form. Mille, in the 111 matches, scored only 153 runs at an average of 30.60 and a very low strike rate of 127.49, which are all very modest numbers for a finisher. He provided a little security, but his inability to go crazy when the team needed it quickly and to pile up runs in the last overs so often made LSG short of 10-15 runs. The stats speak for themselves as LSG had the third-lowest strike rate (166.24) and the second-highest number of wickets lost in the 16-20 overs.

Rovman Powell, however, is a player who lives for the high-pressure moments. With a career T20I strike rate of 140.95 in T20Is and a proven ability to clear the ropes, he could not have been a better fit for LSG’s need for last-minute hitters. His experience and demeanour might be of great help to the likes of Abdul Samad and Ayush Badoni, taking them through the death-over batting tactics and taking the pressure off them.

Gujarat Titans (GT)
The Gujarat Titans (GT) had the best batting order but were not able to finish the matches strongly in the IPL 2025. Their main batting line, consisting of Sai Sudharsan (759 runs, Orange Cap winner), Shubman Gill (650 runs), and Jos Buttler (538 runs), scored most of the runs, but the team did not have a dependable finisher once the openers got out early. The stats are quite shocking. King GT had the fourth-lowest strike rate (169.64) and the worst batting average (15.83) in the last four overs amongst all teams in IPL 2025. Their failure to convert good starts into match wins resulted in their loss in many matches.

Rovman Powell can be the answer to this problem. He is a player who is capable of scoring 30 or 40 runs in just 15 or 20 balls and thus bringing the required explosive finish that GT has been hoping for. With Buttler, Gill, and Sai creating solid chunks of runs, Powell’s power-hitting ability could lead GT to a big total at the death, which they did not have last season.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

The IPL 2025 season was a nightmare for Liam Livingstone and RCB. His performance with both bat and ball was below par. The supposed Englishman scored only 112 runs in 10 matches with an average of 16 and a strike rate of 133.33. He had totally lost his touch while batting at No.4 and especially looked helpless against spinners. Things were not any different with the ball as Livingstone took only two wickets at an average of 38 while giving away runs at a shocking economy of 9.01.

On the other hand, Rovman Powell could be a perfect fit for RCB’s needs. His presence will mean that RCB has a powerful striker, especially against medium pacers, which can obliterate any bowling unit. Plus, his joining will ease Tim David and Romario Shepherd as far as the burden of the finisher’s role is concerned. Besides power-hitting, Powell’s ability to play a sheet anchor role when needed can finally bring an end to RCB’s long-standing middle-order problems. Not to mention Powell’s occasional medium pace and being the West Indies T20 captain, which makes RCB’s squad even deeper and more flexible.
