Kagiso Rabada has rated South Africa’s win over India in the first Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The visitors registered a 30-run victory inside three days, their first win in India after 15 years. “It is right up there. With the type of victories that we have achieved this season, it is hard to say because we have been part of epic wins. But this one is among the top three,” Rabada said.
Rabada was not a part of the Playing XI due to a rib injury, but he found the match an emotional roller coaster. “This is what typical Test cricket is. We were on the back foot and then somehow managed to finish on the front foot,” he added.
“It was nerve-wracking, and I don’t know what to say. It was an emotional roller coaster and I’m glad that we won the game,” he mentioned.
According to him, the Proteas believe that all the members can contribute to making the team win from any situation. “Aiden and Rickelton gave us a good start and set the tone in the first innings. Marco and Boshie stood up. Everyone chipped in, and it shows what our team is made of.
“We find ways to win matches. Temba has been crucial for the team, but he hasn’t played all the matches. I didn’t play the first Test. It doesn’t matter. We believe that any player can do the job for us.”
South Africa secured 12 points in the Kolkata Test, and the team has now reached second in the WTC points table. The second Test will be played at ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday.
Simon Harmer was named the Player of the Match for taking eight wickets in the Test. Chasing 124 runs, the hosts were dismissed for 93 runs.
